Put it all together

In this final activity, you are going to work with everything you learned in this material. You need to remember some vocabulary about food, the way we ask about quantities, the use of “there is” or “there are” and also something about currencies. If you have any questions about this section, feel free to review the material again.

Writing Exercise

Complete the following conversation between Lucy and Peter. They work at a CCH cafeteria. Peter is going to the supermarket to buy products for the cafeteria so he is asking questions to Lucy to know what he needs to buy.

Shopping list

Shopping list...

Peter: Hey Lucy, could you help me out? I need to know what to buy at the supermarket.
Lucy: Sure, how can I help?
Peter: Well, let’s check if we have all the ingredients for making breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Lucy: Well, start asking and I’ll let you know.
Peter: Well, many people have coffee and some bread for breakfast. How many loaves of bread are there?
Lucy: There is only one loaf, but there are 2 donuts and some bread to make sandwiches. The problem is that there isn’t any coffee so we need to buy some.
Peter: Ok, it’s on my list now. What about lunch? We need vegetables, we want this cafeteria to have healthy food. I know there are many tomatoes but, are there any carrots?
Lucy: No, there aren’t any. Please buy 2 kilos and we need some avocados.
Peter: What? Avocados? They are too expensive! A kilo of avocado is about 4 dollars!
Lucy: I know, but we need it, so please buy at least 2 or 3 pieces and we cut them into small slices.
Peter: Ok, 3 avocados then. What about desserts? How much ice cream is there?
Lucy: Oh we have 1 liter ! but don’t worry about that, we don’t need too much. There is only one guy who always wants a bowl of ice cream.
Peter: Ok, my list is complete now. Would you like something else?
Lucy: Well, I’m kind of hungry so, I’d like a snack, like chocolate cookies for example.
Peter: You are a chocolate lover! Ok, I’m ready now, see you later!
Complete all the gaps to get feedback.
