TIP

The best way to learn these types of verbs is to find the learning strategy that best fits you. Here we share some tips:

  1. Group the phrasal verbs by a particular verb, for example: get up, get dressed, get along with, etc.
  2. Group them by topic. If grouping them by a particular verb doesn’t work for you, you can find this way of grouping the verbs more attractive as you can make a list of verbs related to expressing emotions, for instance.
  3. Make lists of 5 or 7 phrasal verbs, if you make your list longer you may find it boring and you may lose interest.
  4. Write down phrasal verbs that you can relate to. It is easier to learn about the things that are true for us and that we use in our everyday life.
  5. Learn them in context. The idea is to check them in texts, audios or videos so you can see how they are used in real life. When you read a text, for example, you can write down the phrasal verbs you find, just some of them, then look up the meaning and practice by making your own sentences.
  6. You can also make some flash cards with them to have a visual with the phrasal verb, its meaning, an example and an image.
