Many things in life require careful planning. Especially when we intend to do something important. For example when we are about to go on a trip, or when we are having a party.
But, what if we have to secretly get into a stranger’s house to recover something? What if that object could help an innocent person to avoid prison? That is when we need the most careful plan in life!
Chapter I
Read the story about Sara, Richard and Camila and answer each question by choosing the correct answers.
In 2020 Sara Smith lost her job because of the pandemic. During some time she could afford to pay her expenses with her savings, but after some months she had to keep on working. She started working as a housekeeper at Richard’s mansion. Richard is a wealthy business person who works as a real estate agent and he has a beautiful house because he pays special attention in decorating his home with the finest articles. On the top of Richard’s possessions, there was a Van Gogh painting that Richard had won in an auction. Richard loved that painting because for him, it was like having a museum at home. For Sara, it was the perfect job because she had a good salary, she could use the house swimming pool and as soon as she finished her duties, she was allowed to go home.
In the mid 2020, Richard started having financial problems because of the long lockdown caused by the pandemic. He was about to lose it all: his home, his job and everything he had. In the following days, he was thinking about different ideas and little by little he came up with a plan: “I’m going to pretend that someone broke into my home and stole everything”. Richard has home insurance, so he knows that he would receive a big amount of money. It seemed to be the perfect plan, except for the fact that Sara was found guilty and she had to go to prison even though she is innocent.
While she is in prison, many people visit Sara. However, the most important visitor is Sara’s daughter: Camila. She knows that her mother is innocent and she committed herself to prove it. Camila knows that Richard hid everything, including his most important possession: Van Gogh’s painting. Then, she made a careful plan to recover the painting so that her mother could recover her freedom.
The plan is set for next week. First, she is going to ask some friends to help her. Second, they all are going to get into Richard’s old house at night and then, they are going to recover the painting. After that, she is going to the police to take the painting and tell them the truth. Finally, her mother is going to be free and Richard is going to prison.
