How do you see the future?

Education

Some predictions from an interview made by the RMIT University to professor Tricia McLaughin about the ways education is set to change in the near future, in this society full of information and technological development, are important to consider.

How do you see the future?

Traditional education is going to be left behind by student learning spaces, in this way students are going to become co-creators of their own learning. Collaboration, communication, and teamwork are going to take place in a different way. On the other hand, the role of the teacher is changing, they are going to become facilitators of learning, so students are going to have more control of their own learning process. Professor Tricia thinks that assessments in the future will be evidence based and learning plans will be personalized.

Entertainment

Entertainment will be part of our lives forever; entertainment evolution has just begun and the way how it is experienced is changing. Entertainment is going to engage all human senses. The visuals will become interactive like holograms.

Nowadays we can read and see everywhere, the prediction of the headset that will bring us to alternative reality. Computer simulation will become part of our lives soon, this simulation is going to be indistinguishable from reality. According to research, consumers will do grocery shopping in virtual markets, paying with virtual money, and drones will bring the order straight to the kitchen.

Tourism

Online travel technology has changed over the past 10-15 years. Leisure travel agents will become specialized not in destination, but in their own locations, as tour operators. It is thought that people will be booking local experiences through a hologram, with the help of a local expert, paying more for transportation with less legroom.

According to research, some technology trends that will shape tourism in the future are:

  1. Virtual reality. It is going to allow you to experience far away locations from the comfort of your home.
  2. Self-check-in. We won’t have to wait in huge lines to get to the airplane or wait to get checked into hotel rooms.
  3. Robots. They are going to be used to do several jobs. They will be 24/7 workers who can help by answering the questions all travelers have at some point of their trip, analyze your body temperature, and adjust the air conditioning, or carry your bags to your room.

Jobs

According to Australian based futurologist Craig Rispin from Seek.com, life sciences and the services are the most potential industries in the future. It is believed that there will be jobs such as drone and robot managers in the service industry.

Some of the jobs of the future mentioned by Rispin are:

  1. Data specialist which is a job that is gaining relevance due to all the information collected electronically. Data scientists, virtual environment managers, and collective intelligence officers are going to be in big demand.
  2. Food chemist is thought to be a future job because new food additives are created every year. Someday 3D printers will "print" new foods cheaply.
  3. Doctors can diagnose many illnesses in the womb. These Fetal medicine specialists will help parents to treat their babies before they are born.
  4. Front end developer who is better known as front end web developer. These developers are going to be in heavy demand because they understand how to make websites work for online customers.

Comments:

Adrian Smith: education in the future will need to demonstrate how technology can be used with academic purposes to students’ advantage.

Eva Estrada: to the technology trend about robots. I mean, you must be rich enough to pay for a service like that. It will be for a minority, not for everybody.

Guio Von: classrooms will be anywhere anytime. Students will work on projects in virtual contexts with other students from around the world at any given moment. Which is great!

Daniel Gers: Wll, with Rispin’s proposal. I think he’s right about the emerging importance of Fetal medicine specialists who today, for example, can detect if the babies have Down's Syndrome before they are born.
