Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the most important aspect when learning a new language. It’s even more important than grammar. According to Wilkins (1972) very little can be said without grammar, but nothing can be said if we don’t know the words to express our message.

In this section you will be able to learn vocabulary that you will need throughout this material. Learning this vocabulary will help you understand the rest of the sections. So, it’s a lot better if you work on this section before any other.

There are several ways you can learn new words. One of the most common ones is through images. In that way, you are more likely to remember the new vocabulary.

Look at the following vocabulary. Make sure you listen to it, check the spelling of each word and take a moment to carefully observe each picture.

If you really want to learn new words, you need to use them as much as possible. It isn’t enough to look at the images just once. So, let’s practice the words at the top.

Read the following ideas about the past, present and future. Complete each idea with vocabulary from the chart.

1 | In the past, especially in the XIV century, rich people wore that covered their real hair.

2 | When I was a child I loved festivals because lots of people showed their full of vivid colors.

3 | At first, only workers wore but now, it’s probably the most common fabric.

4 | Women wear when they go to a formal party.

5 | Celebrities and influencers walk through to show the nicest clothes.

6 | Some people eat and other insects. They prepare them with salt and lemon. They are delicious!

7 | In the future, shoe will change according to the pavement. In that way, people will walk more comfortably.

8 | In a hundred years’ time, will use plastic or metal to make new clothes.

Another great way to learn new vocabulary is by looking at the context. In that way, you can discover or deduct the meaning of unknown words.
