Do you know how to ask a person for the location of a place? Look at the map, then listening and read the conversations.
A: Excuse me. Where is the cinema?
B: The cinema? Oh, it is between the supermarket and the bookstore.
A: Do you know where the hospital is?
B: Of course. It is next to the drugstore.
A: Hello. Can you tell me where the bus station is?
B: Sure. It is across from the restaurant.
As you can see, when we want to ask for locations we use some specific questions. Can you identify them in the conversation? These expressions are:
Where is (the name of the place)?
Where is the hospital?
Do you know where (the name of the place) is?
Do you know where the hospital is?
Can you tell me where (the name of the place) is?
Can you tell me where the hospital is?
Notice that Do you know…? and Can you tell me…? are questions to ask for location in a polite or formal way. Do you want to practise? Let’s do some exercises.
