In this section you are going to read about one of the most popular legendary adventures of Thor. Be sure you read the whole text first and then choose the best linking word in each blank.

One morning Thor got up and saw that his hammer was missing, (1) he asked god Loki for help. (2) Loki knew about it, he guessed that the giants had stolen the hammer, so he went to see Thrym, the king of the giants.

(3) Loki asked Thrym about the hammer, the giant began to laugh and said “I buried it in a secret place, (4) I will give it back only if Freyja marries me.”

Loki returned to Asgard and told Freyja about the giant’s plan. She was sad and angry (5) she didn’t want to marry a terrible giant.

Freyja and Loki thought about what they could do and made a plan to fool Thrym, the giant-king . They decided to dress up Thor in a wedding dress so that he looked like Freyja.

(6) Thor didn’t want to wear a dress, but the gods convinced him that it was the only thing to do.

Thor and Loki arrived at the giant´s castle, they found that Thrym had prepared a great banquet in honor of Freyja.  Thor was really hungry (7) he began to eat, he ate an entire ox and eight fish. He couldn’t control himself! Thrym and the other giants were surprised to see Freyja´s great appetite.

Loki was worried that the king was suspicious, (8) he explained that Freyja was so excited about her wedding that she couldn´t eat.

Thrym was so happy that he tried to kiss his bride, but unfortunately, he saw Thor’s red eyes and got confused. Loki explained that Freyja couldn't sleep in eight nights (9) she was so excited about her wedding.

The giant-king was satisfied with Loki’s explanation, and the celebration continued.

(10) , the king brought the hammer and gave it to Freyja, with the hammer in his hand, Thor stood up and took off the veil, the giants recognized him and panicked. They tried to run away , but Thor and his hammer were too quick and defeated all the giants. Thor and Loki triumphantly returned to Asgard.
