1. On April 13,1985, members of the Neo-Nazi Nordic Reich Party were walking on the streets of Växjö in Sweden when a Polish-Swedish lady, Danuta Danielsson, hit a Neo Nazi with her handbag. She was very angry because she was walking and sharing civic space with fascists.
2. Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run The Boston Marathon in 1967. When the organizer Jock Semple realized a woman was running in the competition, he tried to tackle her and he was trying to take out her numbers, but she kept running and finished the race.
3. Annette Kellerman was a professional swimmer. In 1907 she was swimming at Boston’s Revere Beach when the police arrested her because she was wearing a one-piece bathing suit that ended in shorts above her knees and her legs caused a scandal.
4. Margaret Hamilton was a computer engineer. She was raising her daughter while she was working as the director of software engineering for Nasa's Apollo Space Program in 1969. Her team developed the code for the command and lunar modules used on the Apollo missions to the Moon. In the photo she was standing next to the mathematical sequence she wrote out by hand.
5. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was riding a crowded bus in the city of Montgomery when the driver noticed that white passengers were standing in the aisle. He asked Parks and other black passengers to stand up and give them their seats. Three of the passengers left their seats, but Parks didn’t do it. It was her case that motivated the civil rights movement.
6. Amelia Earhart was an amazing pilot. She made five world records and won many awards. In this photo she was receiving a bouquet of flowers because she was respected and admired. In 1937, her plane disappeared when she was flying to Howland Island.
